9-13-2018: Ready for Our Next Adventure

Soon we’ll be off again on another wonderful adventure.  More than a year ago, Christine signed us up for an Olivia cruise from Venice to Athens.  The cruise is October 6-13.  After booking the cruise, Christine spent a gazillion hours planning a fabulous itinerary before and after the cruise.  And of course, we can’t possibly go near the Mediterranean Sea without stopping in Malta.  So we start and end this adventure in Malta, the first week and the last week of the trip, in “our” flat in Sliema where we stayed for 3 months in 2016.

This adventure is taking us from Sliema, Malta, Catania, Sicily, Florence, Italy, Venice, Italy, Dubrovnik, Croatia, Chenia, Crete, Santorini, Greece,  Mykonos, Greece, Athens, Greece and then back to Malta, first in Xemxija and then back to Sliema.  Here’s a map of our trip.

Our trip map

One of the special parts of this adventure is that our daughter Eve will be joining us in Athens for a few days and then will fly with us back to Malta for a couple of days.  We’re really looking forward to being with her as we enjoy Athens and then Xemxija.  Unfortunately, she has recently fractured a bone in her foot.  She is in a boot and we’re all hoping that she’ll be somewhat mobile.  But, she said today that she’ll have her sketchbook with her so she’ll be happy to sit and draw/paint.  And I think Athens will be a fantastic place for her to be an artist.

A lot has happened in the months after Christine booked our travel arrangement and accommodations, namely Christine’s ruptured brain aneurysm.  Let’s just say that 5-1/2 months ago I never would have imagined that we would go on this trip due to the catastrophic medical emergency that occurred on March 30, 2018.  But we’re both doing well.  Christine is mostly recovered, but still has some deficits that time will heal.  We’re very glad that nearly all of the arrangements had been made prior to her rupture.  We look upon this trip as both a celebration of Christine’s recovery and some very needed R&R, although most would say that travel doesn’t provide much rest and relaxation.  However, we think this will give us the opportunity to get away from the  drudgery of working hard on rehabilitation and recovery and doing all the things involved in picking up the pieces after a near-death experience.

So, we hope that you’ll join us on this next adventure to Malta, Italy and Greece.  I will blog during the trip and you can celebrate our journey vicariously.  We’ll be departing this Friday and arrive in Malta Saturday afternoon, September 15.
